If you’re not familiar with the series DELICIOUS shame on
you. I’ve already written in the past about series 1 and 2 and now we have
series 3 on hand to enjoy. For those who haven’t seen the first two go, rent
them, buy them and then watch them. When you’re done come back and keep
reading. Or you could get the drift of what the show is about from me here and
then buy all three. My guess is you’ll have fun with all of them.
For those who are coming aboard late the story revolves
around the Penrose Hotel in Cornwall and its owner and well-known chef Leo
Vincent (Iain Glen). Sort of. Leo was once married to Gina Benelli (Dawn
French) but divorced her to marry Sam Vincent (Emilia Fox). Several years later
he’s still married to Sam but sleeping on the side with Gina. It turns out that
Gina was the one who was actually responsible for all of the menu items that
Leo made famous. Before the first episode ends though Leo has a heart attack
and dies. The theme of the story then revolves around Gina and Sam as they try
and continue the operation of the Penrose while dealing with other issues
around them as well.
So on to series three. The two women seem to be able to keep
things going and getting along for the most part. Sam runs the front end of the
hotel while Gina runs the kitchen and menu. Their friendship and partnership is
put to the test though when Sam invites handsome restaurateur Mason Elliot
(Vincent Regan) to an event she’s come up with looking for investors so she can
build a spa nearby that would extend their business. Knowing the Leo hated
Mason with a passion as well as the fact that he tends to buy out any
competition, Gina is furious. And of course it isn’t long before he does indeed
set up shop nearby, stealing the parcel of land Sam was interested in for his
new restaurant as well as Gina’s head assistant and Leo’s illegitimate son Adam
Hesketh (Aaron Anthony).
If all of this wasn’t enough Gina’s daughter Teresa (Tanya
Reynolds) has returned home from her travels around the world with Michael, Leo
and Sam’s son. Everyone assumes Michael is at fault and Teresa has a secret she
only shares with her grandmother Mimi (Shelia Hancock). She’s pregnant and the
father is not Michael.
But Mimi has a secret of her own that she shares only with
Teresa. She has a tumor and potentially cancer. And she’s decided not to tell
anyone or to fight it if that turns out to be the case. She’d rather go out
with dignity than go through the rigors of chemo and radiation.
Old habits die hard though and it isn’t long before Gina
ends up bedding Mason who can’t get enough of her cooking. Then Sam, before he
buys the property, beds him hoping he’ll invest in her concept. One does it for
love and one for business but I won’t say which is which.
Other items take place that display the two women seeking
the same goals from different directions and never seeming to take the time to
talk to one another to combine their efforts to achieve those goals. That’s
part of what makes up the comedy of the show. That they can never seem to learn
from their mistakes is hilarious and frustrating at the same time.
The acting from all on board here is wonderful and there
isn’t a bad performance in the lot. The scenery is stunning, the cinematography
some of the best and the story is so well driven that it’s nice to have the
series on disc. That allows you to binge watch and enjoy each series rather
than wait for what’s next. While this one seems to have the final chapter
nicely in place who knows. If not I’m sure that series 4 will be just as
enjoyable. Now, go out and buy all three seasons and have some fun.
